The Redondo Union school board received $3.19 million from the federal American Rescue Plan Oct. 26. The plan, which Congress approved last March, requires the money be spent on programs that address students’ academic, social, emotional and mental health needs.Â
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Susan Wildes said a district survey conducted Sept. 10 through Oct. 1 received 1,134 responses. Their top three priorities were 1. high quality instruction/learning materials, 2. academic support, and extended learning opportunities and 3. high quality instructional technology/mental health services.
Among the projects the funds will go to are “high-dosage tutoring,” professional development for teaching literacy, classroom interactive TV monitors and replacement of outdoor landings on playgrounds. Â
“Everything in this plan came directly from stakeholder input,” said Wildes. “This is what the community was asking for.”
The money must be spent by September of 2024. ER
