Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk broke last year’s record with over $1.1 million in donations toward programs for children with special needs.
Over 11,000 participants walked from the Manhattan Beach Pier to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back Sunday.

The nonprofit Skechers Foundation has been holding the annual fundraising event since 2009. Funds from the event go to provide one-on-one peer mentoring and social recreational programming for kids with special needs.
Former Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda and television personality Brooke Burke-Charvet rallied the walkers, as they have in years past.
“It’s my fourth time at the walk, and every year it’s incredible to see thousands of parents, neighbors and friends gathering for our kids,” said Burke-Charvet, who walked with husband and their four kids. “Of all my experiences with Skechers, this is one of the most inspiring. This day really makes me feel like we can all turn our hopes and dreams for our kids’ futures into a reality.”
Later, the 24th annual Pumpkin Races took place in front of the Manhattan Beach Pier.
