Sounds of summer – Concerts in parks, piers, beaches, and cliffside  

The Satin Dollz opened last summer’s Manhattan Beach Polliwog Park concerts with aUSO styled tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces

Summer is a time of song and celebration everywhere, but no place does it quite like the South Bay, where concerts take place on piers, in parks, on beaches, and perched upon a cliffside overlooking the Pacific Ocean. 

Summer Concerts at the Redondo Beach Pier 

Free concerts take place at the Redondo Beach Pier’s Fishermens Wharf from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday and Saturday from July 2 through August 31. Thursdays are tribute band nights. The concerts are sponsored by the Redondo Beach Pier Association, and Miller’s Childrens and Womens Hospital.

The City of Manhattan of Manhattan Beach continues its long tradition, hosting Concerts in the Park every Sunday night from July 2 to September 3 at the Polliwog Park Amphitheater. Free of charge, bring your beach blanket.

Fiesta Hermosa 

The signature event for the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Concerts is a multi-splendored celebration that bookends the summer, on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, and features a sprawling array of food, art, and craft booths. But Fiesta Hermosa in recent years has featured a bounty of music, featuring four stages, ranging from rock ‘n roll to acoustic folk. All the stages are free of charge except the Garden Stage, which costs $5 and includes a beer garden and is adjacent to the food area. Following is the Memorial Day lineup.

Dylanfest 33

June 4

DylanFest traces its origin to a backyard concert in 1991 by Andy Hill’s and Renee Safier’s band Hard Rain, named after a Bob Dylan song. Over the years it grew to become one of the South Bay’s most anticipated musical events. On Saturday, June 4, 40 musicians will perform 60 songs (with no repeats) over eight hours in the Torino Plaza at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center. Noon to 8 p.m., 3350 Civic Center Dr., Torrance.
