Small, clean waves in the early heats gave longboarders plenty of opportunity to attempt high risk maneuvers, from nose walking to reverse fin take-offs during the Surf Concepts/South Bay Boardriders contest at 45th Street in Manhattan Beach on Saturday, April 21. Nearly two dozen longboarders competed. Dave Schaefer won the event, Hudson Ritchie was second and Dylan St. Germain was third. Cosmo Flynn, Tim Ferguson and Steve Compass filled out the finals heat.
