Body Glove videographers Greg Browning and Scott Smith worked from land and water to capture the Dive N’ Surf/South Bay Boardriders Club contest held in picture perfect waves and weather on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 45th Street in Manhattan Beach.
After nearly three decades away from competitive surfing, and two hip replacements, former top ranked pro surfer Mike Purpus returned to the podium by winning the legends division (50 and over). Rich Silva, a Rosecrans local, took first in the open division. Kelly Zaun won the junior men’s (18 and under) division and the Best Maneuver award, which earned him a $100 prize, presented by Electra Sunglasses Jani Lange. Zaun called his maneuver a “nose pick.” Former South High surfer Natalie Anzivino, last months women’s open winner, and last year’s overall series winner, won the women’s open division. Rachel Tominaga won the junior girls (18 and under) division.
