ART SHOW

The Redondo Beach Art Group proudly presents “On the Beach”. The artists include: James Blake, Debra Collett, Sandra Chu, Gina Clancy, Linda Detweiler, Bridget Duffy, Bernard Fallon, Debra Flores. HIKE

Planning to conquer Mt. Whitney or just trying to get back into last summer’s bikini? The  Sierra Club leads conditioning hikes every Thursday — two hour hikes on the hilly streets and trails of Palos Verdes.  Up to five groups, ranging from slow to fast/strenuous.  Meet at 6:30 p.m. in parking lot near Rite Aid Drugs at Hawthorne Blvd. and Silver Spur road in Rolling Hills Estate.

BOOK LAUNCH

Craig Hummer, co-Author of The Loyal Lieutenant will be at Pages. In this highly anticipated cycling memoir, co-written by Craig Hummer, American cyclist “Big George” Hincapie provides the most comprehensive account of a dark period in professional cycling, in which doping scandals have decimated the careers of some of the top athletes in the field. Craig resides in Manhattan Beach, and is a broadcast journalist covering the annual Tour de France event. He will be at Pages at 7 p.m., 904 Manhattan Ave., Manhattan Beach. CPR

Torrance Memorial is providing free hands-only CPR training. In honor of National CPR Week, the American Heart Association (AHA) is collaborating with the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency to coordinate a county-wide CPR training program. The trainings will take place in the patient-waiting area on the Lundquist Tower’s first floor and Helena’s Café from 9 a.m. – 12 noon. The event is free and no RSVP are necessary. You can drop by at any time for the training, which takes less than 10 minutes. CPR instructors and local firefighters will be on hand to demonstrate the basics and proper techniques of hands-only CPR, and participants will have the opportunity to practice on mannequins. The training will not result in CPR certification, but information on how you can get certified will be available. The Manhattan Beach Senior Citizens Resource Committee will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. The meeting is devoted to ways for seniors to stay in their home. WORKSHOP

The Cancer Support Community-Redondo Beach (CSC-RB) hosts Valeria Brinkers, Ikebana Flower Arranging with Valeria Brinkers from 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon, at 109 West Torrance Blvd, Redondo Beach. Ikebana flower Arranging is a traditional Japanese art form and useful healing tool from the Zen tradition that promotes wellness and recovery.
