ELECTION STRESS
The Beach Cities Health District is presenting a mindfulness-based stress reduction workshop just in time for the March 3 city council, Measure B and Measure O elections. Gloria Kamler of the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center will lead the workshop from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at St. Cross by the Sea Episcopal Church, 1818 Monterey Blvd., Hermosa Beach. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are needed at the Madrona Marsh Nature Center and Preserve to help with habitat restoration every Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Join the group and gain expertise about weeds of the South Bay. This program is for adults willing to make a minimum commitment of at least 50-100 hours or more per year, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at 3201 Plaza Del Amo, Torrance. Every Friday the Joslyn Community Center of Manhattan Beach will be offering the card game of Bridge. Older adults are welcome to bring their friends or join in on a pickup game with players already there. If you are unfamiliar with the card game of Bridge and would like to learn, there will be multi level players who can teach you from 10 – 2 p.m. at 1601 Valley Drive, Manhattan Beach. PICKLEBALL
Join in every Tuesday at Manhattan Heights Park for the fun game of Pickleball!
Pickleball is a racket sport in which two to four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a polymer perforated ball over a net. The sport shares features of other racket sports, the dimensions and layout of a Badminton court, and a net and rules similar to tennis with a few modifications. One of the fastest growing sports in North America, Pickleball was invented in the 1960s as a children’s backyard pastime but quickly became popular among adults as a game fun for players of all skill levels. Make new friends and get in shape on a moderate, 90 minute, four mile hike on the greenbelt and hilly streets of Hermosa and Manhattan Beach. BLOOD DRIVE

TAX TIME
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides Free tax assistance to older individuals in the community. IRS trained and certified volunteers will prepare federal and CA tax returns for persons 60 and older. They handle all aspects of filing under the Affordable Care Act on Wednesdays, starting February 4th through April 15th. First come, first served (No appointments). Sign in between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., at the Joslyn Community Center, 1601 Valley Drive, Manhattan Beach. Taxpayers who want free help should bring their W2s and 1099 forms received in the mail, last year’s tax returns, and other pertinent records. AARP membership not required.
