Fartbarf and Queen Kwong at Standing Room: Fartbarf call their sound more eclectic than the offspring of a Tijuana hooker, and have defined themselves as post-Neanderthal Analog Synthesizer Rock n’ Roll. Their shows are powerfully energized and full of dancing, madness and hilarity. Joining them at TSR’s stage is Queen Kwong, starring indie-sweetheart Carre Callaway. The Expendables at Saint Rocke: The Expendables have staked their claim in the California surf/rock genre by headlining venues from coast to coast. Blending reggae, punk rock, and 80s style dueling guitar solos, the Santa Cruz band has made heads turn and floors shake for years.The Expendables have continued a tenacious touring schedule for over a decade and now, after numerous hours in studio, they plan to release their sixth full-length studio album, “Gone Soft” this May. Pizza and Trivia at KHB: For those who want to keep it super low-key on New Years but want to get out of the house, King Harbor Brewing hosts its weekly pizza and trivia night. Vella Pizza cranks out delicious pizzas starting at 4pm. Check out Chef Joe’s next beer inspired creations every Wednesday in the King Harbor Brewing Co. tasting room. Champagne and comedy royalty: For those who want to start their new year laughing, and don’t mind spending $110 to do so,can head to Hermosa’s comedy headquarters for a night with Jay Leno, Cristela Alonzo, Jim Brogan and Jim Edwards. Party at the Portofino: The NYE Gala 2015 at the Portofino Hotel boasts three rooms of music with multiple DJs and dance floors, tarot readers, special live performances from dancers and percussionists and a 2015 countdown show. One of the biggest venues in the South Bay can hold 1,000 party people and still have plenty of to ring in the New Year on the dance floor! DJs include Quasar, Adam Nello, Eric B and Severin. Great Gatsby at Shade: Shade Hotel will channel the Roaring Twenties at a Great Gatsby-inspired New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31, beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets for this event are available online for $75 per person. The event will feature a live DJ, burlesque dancers, gaming tables for craps, roulette, black jack and poker, tray-passed hors d’oeuvres, a full dessert bar, a raffle, and a champagne toast at the stroke of midnight. Guests can also take the party to Shade Hotel’s Skydeck to enjoy a warming fire pit, a tarot card reader and bottle service tables available in an exclusive VIP area. A percentage of proceeds from the event’s raffle will benefit GrowingGreat, a nonprofit education organization that empowers children to adopt healthy eating behaviors today and inspires the farmers and scientists of tomorrow. An Old Town Music Hall tradition: Ring in 2015 with the Mighty Wurlitzer and join Old Town Music Hall in welcoming their 47th year. Lots of music, great performers, a selection of classic shorts and a surprise feature film will fill the evening. Enjoy complimentary light refreshments and sparkling apple cider. HB Pier NYE Party: Head to the Hermosa Beach Pier on NYE and watch Lou Giovonetti and his big band perform Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett tunes while you wait for the big countdown. A massive TV screen will air the New York countdown at 9 p.m. and again at 12 midnight, Hermosa time. The event, organized by the HB Chamber of Commerce, is free and open to the public, Music starts at 8 p.m.
