It’s been a very pivotal week in surfing as Legendary Surf and Shaper, Hermosa Beach Surfing Walk of Fame Member, Donald Takayama, passed away Monday October 22nd. Mainstream media as well as the surfing world have published and posted tidbits and obituaries, while social medias have been overflowing with grieving, remembrances, and celebrations of Mr. Takayama’s life. In mainstream surf society, lately many contemporary professional surfers have been inspired by the arty “cultural-ism” out of Williamsburg as a way to develop a marketable image. This does not apply to Alex Grey. Let’s face it, dude charges 40 foot waves. Let’s see: 40 foot waves or out-of-focus “film” (yet we know it’s digital with a filter) pictorial of surfers “discovering” New York City. Hmmmm, just do the math here now.
