Design Group features a Manhattan Beach home with a new fireplace that transforms what had been generic space. From latimes.com, “Project: Turn a nearly empty Spanish-style home into a warm, inviting and family-friendly space that also accommodates entertaining.

Designer’s statement: This is a newer home, and the fireplace was incredibly generic. The living room has double-height ceilings, creating a loft-like effect as you walk to the master bedroom and look down onto the living room. To take advantage of the height, I built out the fireplace to stretch up to the ceiling. The mantel was made to look old — classic and Spanish — and we chose beautiful tile for the hearth.

The living room chairs are my design. We searched and searched for a coffee table that wasn’t too large and wouldn’t block the view of the fireplace. I found a white wicker table, spray-painted it bronze and added the glass top.” Read more at latimes.com
