Spotlight on children – Jester and Pharley Phundraiser Helps Kids With Cancer

Friends and relatives came from across the country to celebrate longtime Palos Verdes Estates residents’ Joe and Barbara Saltzman’s Diamond Wedding Anniversary, and to raise funds for The Jester & Pharley Phund charity. Attendees at the Shade Hotel in Redondo Beach included former Chadwick classmates of the Saltzman’s late son David Saltzman, whose popular “Jester Has Lost His Jingle” children’s book is the cornerstone of the charity. Guests included Mary Courtney Burke, Erin Courtney and Dr. Mauricio Heilbron Jr. Former students of USC Professor Joe Saltzman included CNN’s Paul Vercammen; L.A. Times’ Steve Padilla; KCRW’s Warren Olney;City News Service President Lori Streifler; Channel 9’s Laura Diaz; CBS Radio’s Frank Mottek, and poet James Ragan. USC colleagues included former Annenberg Dean Geoffrey Cowan, and wife Aileen Adams, the Weingart Foundation chair; James Vasquez and Debra Ono; USC Norman Lear Center Director Marty Kaplan; USC Prof. Laura Castaneda,her  journalist husband Art Buckler and daughter Olivia Buckler. Father and daughter students Don Nakamoto and Alyssa Nakamoto, now a San Diego TV news producer, also attended. The Saltzman’s son, Michael, a television writer and producer, screened an enchanting video for the guests.
