The Peninsula commemorated a real estate rally at Malaga Cove School on June 17, exactly 100 years to the day a rally launched the modern Palos Verdes Peninsula development. Spearheaded by the Palos Verdes Library District and the Peninsula Friends of the Library in conjunction with the four cities and community organizations, Doors Open Peninsula 2023:  Celebrating 100 Years of History on the Palos Verdes Peninsula was a Peninsula-wide open house. Residents visited historical sites not normally open to the public such as the Mirlo Gate Lodge in PVE and the Nike Missile silo at RPV City Hall.

The main celebration site, called the “Hub,” was at Malaga Cove School.  Over 25 organizations participated. The crowd was treated to a performance by the PV Symphonic Band, itself celebrating its 60th anniversary, a Model T car show courtesy of the Long Beach Model T Club, and Belle and Penelope from Mini Therapy Horses. PVLD was presented with an assembly resolution from Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, and proclamations from Jennifer LaMarque from Supervisor Hahn’s office and Olina Wibroe-Benson from Senator Allen’s office.
