Spotlight on Culture: Peninsula Friends of the Library

Celebrating Our Similarities

The Peninsula Friends of the Library’s Celebrating Our Similarities event was Sunday, October 27 featuring South Asian Heritage’s Diwali—Festival of Lights: light conquering darkness and spreading light and joy to the world. The community room was elaborately decorated for this jubilant event, cosponsored by the Peninsula Hill Foundation. It featured Kathak dance by Nupur Academy LA in their colorful attire, Veena performances by Aparna Sitaram and seven young students, Tabla and singing, art displays by Deval Parikh, a Bollywood dance lesson by Pragya Jaiswal & Radhika Srivatsavaya, Diya decorations and coloring books for kids, henna artists who made intricate designs, a festive photo booth, and food samples by Bombay Tandoori & Banquet. This colorful, vibrant celebration was sold out, and the community was so grateful for the chance to embrace another culture and learn about South Asian ABCD-FM: Art, Books, Clothing, Dance, Food & Music.
