Judging from Mike Balzer’s photos, ’70s single fins appeared to work as well contemporary thrusters for the top surfers in Saturday’s ’70s era surf contest, held Saturday morning, prior to the Hermosa Beach Surfers Walk of Fame inductions. The contest was hosted by Spyder Surf and Quiksilver. Competitors were required to ride ’70s era boards. Mira Costa team rider Robbie Itzinger took first place.  Spyder store manager Chris Broman finished sixth. But that was good enough for him to capture the Spyder/Quicksilver Triple Crown series. In the previous two series contest, competitors rode ’80s and ’60s board. The title earned Browman a Mark Richards twin fin.

Results: 1. Robbie Itzinger, 2. Matt Pagan, 3. Andrew Neal, 4 Andy Large, 5. Chris Broman, 6 Chad Coons. Triple Crown Series winner: Chris Broman. ER
