Surf ability, no video quality that matters

The ET Surf/South Bay Boardriders Club Virtual Event 2 Surf Contest is underway. Contestants’ videos will be accepted through Sunday February 28. Waves must be ridden between Indicator on the south and the south side of the Santa Monica Pier, on the north.

In previous years, the SBBC contest series has been held throughout the winter on Saturdays in El Porto. But this winter, because of the pandemic, rather than surf together in heats, in front of judges, competitors are surfing individually, in front of video cameras.

Contest announcer Mark Cole has emphasized that judging is based on the level of surfing, not on the quality of the video.
