The Surfer Walk of Fame Weekend begins Friday, April 21 at 6 p.m with a free evening of awards, and films celebrating the South Bay’s rich surfing history.

A screening of Chris Miller’s “Legends of Surf”, celebrating Surfer Walk of Fame inductees since the walk’s inception in 2023. The inductees date back to the pioneer surfers and board builders, and also including the South Bay’s top competitive surfers.

Spyder Surf owners Dickie O’Reilly and Dennis Jarvis, at the 2015 Spyder Surf Fest, are celebrating their surf company’s 40th anniversary this year.

The evening will end with a screening of Hawiian surfer John John Florence’s film “Gravity.” The film is described as “an electric compilation of footage cut to an explosive soundtrack, highlighting the historic 2021-22 winter on Hawaii’s North Shore.”

The evening will also feature awards and scholarship presentations by the South Bay Boardriders Club, and the South Bay High School Scholastic Surfing Association.

The SBBC awards will feature video and slides of the 2022-23 winners and runners up for Ride of the Year, Wipeout of the Year, Hardest Charging Grom, and the Big Wave Challenge.

On Saturday, following the Surfer Walk of Fame inductions, the 15th Annual Spyder Surf Fest will present local musicians, and surf industry vendors on Pier Plaza.

“As in years past, Spyder Surf Fest is all about the industry and families getting together and having fun as we continue to celebrate surfing. The top name brands in the surf, skate and action sports join us to help inspire the next generation of youth,” said Dennis Jarvis, founder, of Spyder Surf Shops, which is celebrating its 40th year.

SBBC contest and events announcer Mark Cole, emceeing last year’s awards evening, will return to emcee this year’s event.

Performers will include Jamisen, the Vlasics, Night of the Hunter, and The Smash Up. Kevin Sousa will emcee.

In the evening the surf celebration will continue at Waterman’s restaurant. SWOF
