The first solid winter swell rolled into the South Bay just in time to wreak havoc on Thanksgiving family plans. Despite a 6 a.m. high tide, former pro Chris Wells paddled out early at the Redondo Breakwall for 20 minutes of solo barrels. By then, surfers on the beach waiting for the tide to drop had seen enough. From sunrise to sunset, through the entire tide swing, the Breakwall delivered picture perfect, overhead waves. Balmy temperatures and offshore winds sucking in the following day’s rain, gave local surfer plenty to be thankful for.
The beach breaks and even the Cove were closing out, but Hammerland also saw ideal conditions.
