During a morning surf session on the southside of the Hermosa Beach Pier, it’s hard not to smell breakfast cooking from the lineup. If you happen to be surfing on an empty stomach, the sweet smell that permeates the sea air causes a conflict: do I go in to eat or do I catch one more set wave?
Unless it’s one of those rare good surf days at the pier, it’s generally easier to give into hunger. Brother’s Burritos, located on 11th Street a half block from the Strand, contributes to the morning aroma — it’s even harder to not end up sitting in this cozy restaurant, with its friendly environment and extremely bonafide breakfast burrittos.

“It’s like family here,” said Frank Pained, a Brother’s regular, surfer, and coach of the Redondo Union High School Surf Team. “I even invited the crew to my wife’s retirement party.”
Brother’s Burritos was started in 2008 by surfer Ron Garcia and his wife, who also own Ronnie’s Dinner in Culver City. Opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 2:30 p.m., Brother’s serves breakfast and lunch burritos and breakfast bowls with the option to have anything made any way you like it.
“It’s cool to see fresh eggs cracked in front of you when your breakfast is being made,” said Paine, who’s surf team practices in the lineup straight off the beach from Brother’s. “You see the veggies being chopped and the spinach tossed. It’s definitely farm-to-table.”
Brother’s Burritos isn’t only as a surfer’s hangout. As a staple in the community, the restaurant caters to the diversity of Hermosa Beach.
“It’s hard not to engage in conversation at Brother’s,” Paine said. “I’ve had conversations with famous football players, basketball players, baseball players…”
