Volleyball Ventures hosts men’s and women’s doubles tournaments beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The event includes four levels of play (beginner to advanced) and is played in a round-robin format. Players can sign up individually, rotating players from their pool for each match. Players must be 18 years or older and VBV members. Fees are $25 per tournament (pre-registered), $40 for beach registration. Registration and Volunteer Positions are now open for the United States Youth Volleyball League (USYVL) Fall Season. Register now and don’t miss out on the exciting youth volleyball league. The 8-week league in Hermosa Beach at South Park will run from September until November. The USYVL is also looking for volunteer coaches, site directors, and clinicians (volleyball instructors). Olympic gold medalist and former professional beach volleyball star Eric Fonoimoana will be holding an Elite Beach Volleyball Academy for two weeks at the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. The goal of the camp is to produce Division 1 talent for girls to earn a beach scholarship and boys to become a better indoor player by becoming a better-rounded player. The Academy runs from 12-3 p.m. July 18-21 and July 25-28 for boys and girls ages 12-18. Boys and girls ages 8-11 meet from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. July 25-28. Boys and girls ages 8 to 18 years old are invited to take part in Beach Cities Volleyball’s Summer Indoor Volleyball Program. The program will be held in July and August allowing players of all skill sets, beginner to advanced, to have fun and improve their volleyball skills. Each week-long camp features a 5-star coach-to-player ratio and lunch or dinner for full-day participants. Full-day and half-day programs are available. Week 1: July 18-22, American Martyrs (Manhattan Beach); Week 2:  July 25-29, Westchester Park or Christ Lutheran Gym (Palos Verdes); Week 3: Aug. 1-5, Rolling Hills Prep Gym (Torrance); Week 4: August 8th – 12th at Rolling Hills Prep Gym (Torrance); Week 5: Aug. 15-19, Vistamar High School (El Segundo). Running: Registration is available through July 4 for the 18th annual Village Runner 4th of July 5K Run/Walk. The race begins at 8 a.m. in front of Village Runner, 1811-A Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach. The event also includes the Firecracker Dash for kids. Cost is $25, kids’ dash $20 (add $5 after June 27). Registration is open for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life Beach Cities to be held from 9 a.m. July 23 until 9 a.m. July 24 at Alta Vista Elementary School in Redondo Beach. Supporting Redondo and Hermosa Beach communities, the family-oriented event helps raise funds to help eliminate cancer while celebrating the lives of those who have faced the disease. Tennis: Redondo Tennis is holding its Jr. Summer Break Special for boys and girls ages 5-17. Held at Redondo Union High School beginning June 20, 10 weeks of unlimited tennis is $495. Fitness: AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach is offering its Open Rock Wall and Ropes Course on Saturdays from 12-3 p.m. (Rock Wall is also open Sundays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Whether a single child, the whole family, or just a group of friends (Ages 5 and up for rock wall, 8 and up for ropes course), the course provides challenges of solving problems and overcoming obstacles. Groups of seven will start every hour and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the courses. Advance registration is recommended. Cost is $8-$20 depending on activities.
