Beach Cities Sports: Beach tennis, golf, running and more

Tennis: Three players from the South Bay helped the Los Angeles Men’s Tennis Team place second at the USTA League Adult 18 & Over 4.5 National Championships held at Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage. Andy Cohen of Palos Verdes, Roger Allen Yap of Redondo Beach and Kevin Griffin of Manhattan Beach were among the 12-person team that fell to Warsaw, Ind, 4-1 in the championship match after defeating Durhan, N.C., 3-2 in the semifinals.

 

Triathlon: With a time of 2 hours, 15 minutes, 36 seconds, Redondo Beach’s Taylor Spivey won the Punta Guillarte CAMTRI Triathlon Premium American Cup held Oct. 1 in Puerto Rico.

 

Beach Tennis: The Beach Tennis Association will be holding a Halloween Tournament at 14th St. and The Strand in Hermosa Beach Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24-25. For more information and to register, visit westcoastbeachtennis.net.

 

Running:  G.I. Joe Charles presents the annual Fall Pier-to-Pier Run/Walk on Saturday, Nov. 7. Beginning at 7 a.m., the run/walk starts and ends at the Hermosa Beach Pier. T-shirts, goodie bags and raffle prizes to all registrants. For more information and to register, visit mbbootcamp.com.

 

Football: El Camino College has two regular-season home game remaining to be played at 5 p.m. on Saturdays at Redondo Union High School. The Warriors will take on Chaffey (Oct. 31) and Long Beach City (Nov. 14).

 

Volleyball: Registration is open for the Mira Costa Boys Holiday Camp to be held Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 21-22 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Manhattan Beach Middle School,gym, 1501 N. Redondo Ave., Manhattan Beach. Open to boys ages 9-14, the camp is for beginner, intermediate and advanced players wishing to learn more about the game, skill development and basic rules.
