The Fourth Annual Jesse Yaneva Memorial Beach Tennis Tournament will be held on the courts at 14th Street in Hermosa Beach, on Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5.

Yaneva was one of the top beach tennis players in the United States before suffering a stroke that led to her death in 2018.

The Bulgarian native lived in Hermosa, where she sold real estate for 10 years.

“We remember Jesse as a sweet soul and fierce competitor,” Beach Tennis Association CEO Donny Young said during a 2019 memorial, when a plaque of Yaneva was unveiled at the 14th Street courts.

“Her stroke and eventual death was tough on the beach tennis community. It brought us together and we raised $20,000 to bring her family out from Bulgaria.”

Beach Tennis has been growing in popularity since Young set up the first nets at 14th street in 2016. Beach tennis courts are also set up at 7th Street in Manhattan Beach
