Naja’s Place kicks off its 4th annual weeklong IPA Festival today at 2 p.m. Ends May 10. Over 40 IPA’s on tap. Some of the featured breweries include: Ballast Point, Firestone, Mikkeller, Flying Dog, Beachwood, Great Divide, and newcomer Strand Brewing Company. Limited commemorative glassware available.

Happy one year Anniversary!  Hermosa Ink Tattoo has Cinco de Mayo specials. Opens at 10:00 am on May 5. Details 310-376-0451

Steal of a Deal: Tuesday 99 cent burger special at Rockefeller. April featured a lamb-burger named “The Greek Goddess. Lucky you, if Mackenzie is on shift. Must buy a full-priced beverage to get the burger for a buck. Duh! Their beers are excellent, so this is no chore. Come find out what burger May has in store.

Enviable Views: Charlie’s Italian Joint.  At this time of year, you can actually see the sun set into the ocean from your chair. Just ask regular Dave.

Waves of Grain Beerfest benefitting the Roundhouse Aquarium was held at Shade last month. Mucho Ultima Mexicana was on site serving hand-crafted tacos from their new taco cart. The Aquarium receives no state or city funds, and subsists solely on donations and fundraisers like this one. So drink up. Those eels need you to drink. [Has this sentence ever been uttered before?]  And folks, when the party’s over, go home. Know your limit and stay below that. I did not sample all 25+ beers, because I know how to stay within my optimal buzzed-zone. My top 3 favorite beers in order were: 1) Bootlegger’s Brewery, Imperial Black Phoenix, Chipotle Coffee stout. 2) Firestone Velvet Merlin Oatmeal stout. 3) Cismontane Blacks Dawn Imperial Stout.

Untapped Resource: Open Mic at Fenner’s. Talented smokin’ hott chixx can be found singing on Wednesdays at 8pm.  Go there to listen, not ogle. Well don’t be creepy about it. Keep it on the down low. Verified.

Celebrity Sightings: Heard that you-know-who and his teammate went to you-know-where after the #8 LA Kings beat the #1 Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup playoffs last Sunday night. Celebrities—they live among us. Get over it. I am.

Keepin’ the Peace: Justin and Johnny lookin’ good as Establishment’s Guest Security Hosts.

Dating Tip 2: Guys, do not overuse the word “actually.” It’s a redflag for douchebag. As in, “Actually you are kind of cute. Actually I don’t have a girlfriend.  Actually I do have a job. You are actually smarter than you look.”  Ugh. Same goes for the word “unfortunately.” This is like d-bag version 2.0. Watch out, I’m on to you.

My Favorite Thing Week #14: Drew’s Prawns at Silvio’s Brazilian BBQ. OMG! Speechless. So f-ing good! That is all. This $7 Happy Hour item is named after the chef himself. Comes with loaf of bread to mop up all that goodness as you won’t want to miss a drop.

Bartender of the Week: Matthew Murphy  at Nelson’s in Terranea. With quiet efficiency, he doesn’t let this high energy, high volume place rustle him. Past experience at LA LIVE, Trump National and Maison Riz have given him this knack. You can have Nelson’s best-selling cucumber margarita or let Matt show you what’s up his sleeve with an original cocktail and guess what’s in it. Neighbor Allen says, “Matt pours stiffies; that’s a plus.” Matt feels the best bartenders are good at reading people: whether to chit chat or be left alone.  Come on down and let him read you.
