Secret Soiree! Hammitt Los Angeles’ latest handbag trunk show is TONIGHT, April 26 at Twelve + Highland. Get there before the sun sets. Congratulate Stef Hammitt and Tony Drockton on their 10 year anniversary. There’s some hard work I call “worthy.”
Bus from Hermosa to Nikki’s Venice to see DJ Quasar and DJ Chad Watts on Thursday, April 26. www.nikkivenice.com
American Junkie opened last Thursday night. The only smack you’ll find around here is the . . . smacking of lips from their delicious pizza. Can’t wait to try the Beer Margaritas. Dance music is the perfect volume. Yay, my ears aren’t bleeding! High outdoor patio benches, best on the pier, get my official stamp of approval. Perfect to see and be seen. Good for people-shopping, I mean people-watching.
Comedy Magic Club presents Live at the Lounge, Young Talent Night. South Bay’s best 5 singer-songwriters under age 30 for only $12. Catch them now, before they really take off! Friday May 11 at 8 p.m. Presale required. www.liveatthelounge.com
Prank Monkey co-ed football moves to Thursday nights starting May 3. If you get hurt just thinking about sports like I do, you can practice the sport of people-watching. It’s like a TV that changes its own channel. Of course Sharkeez has discounts on drinks after the game, win or lose, whether or not you play. Prankmonkey.org for accurate details.
Dating Tip 1: Girls, if you want to meet nice guys on the strand like I do, just carry a camera, walk with purpose, and SMILE. The camera is an excuse for guys to come talk to you or vice versa. Just think of something good to say for when they do approach. You could also invest in some lululemon pants. My 3 pairs have already paid for themselves. No reason to get a dog (poop machine) just to meet people. Get yourself a camera.
April Birthday Shout-outs: Jon Mesko, Bill Sigler, Cody Cowell, and Sam Edgerton. Is it just me, or do the Aries love to let everyone know it’s their birthday? You can’t have the whole month. Pick a day. Super special Happy Birthday to the man who gives me all my street cred, my pretend husband: The Delicious Bobby D of Chicago. I love you.
My Favorite Thing Week #13: Irresistible Brownie Sundae and Apple Pie Eggrolls at Comedy Magic Club. Satisfy the two item minimum with two desserts, like I did. Even had a hot cocoa to boot! Just ask Mitch.
Bartender of the Week: Harrington Twins, Kirk and Kieran at Chelsea and Underground. Patron Max describes Chelsea Bar as the “Cheers away from Cheers.” Showing true attention to detail, Kieren proudly makes every drink like he’s putting his name on it. Not only does he properly shake a martini (shaker points up), but his devout passion for the Hermosa Beach service industry is palpable even in this Cosmopolitan. Kirk makes a mean Bloody Mary, better than his brother. They feel the best bartender makes you feel welcome with a genuinely warm personality. Bartender Kimmy taught me this tip: “Short hair, long name. Long hair, short name.” Now you’ll never get them mixed up.
