Correction
A story in last week’s Easy Reader (“Bike rental station to go in at pier, p. 10) incorrectly stated that the Manhattan Beach City Council approved a pilot bike rental service near the pier. The council did not approve the program, however, and no final decision was made. The item will be continued for 90 days, according to Interim City Manager Richard Thompson, and is tentatively scheduled for the December 7 City Council meeting, when staff will present additional information requested by council.
Beer Garden
The Mira Costa High School Tennis Boosters, Baseball Boosters and Cheerleader Boosters, as well as The Friendship Circle were announced as this year’s winners of the 2010 Beer Garden Lottery. The volunteer groups will earn 10 percent of the profits brought in by the Beer Garden at the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair, which will be held October 2nd and 3rd. Each year four qualifying non-profit organizations that support city youth win the chance to work the event. Up to 40 percent of the profits from the Beer Garden go directly back to the community. Parent’s Night Out
The Cultural Arts Division of the Manhattan Beach Parks & Recreation Department will begin hosting a new program called Kids Holiday / Parents’ Night Out on Saturday evenings throughout the fall and winter season. Dates will include October 23, November 6th, 13th, 20th, December 4th, 11th, and 18th.
The program is aimed at offering a safe and healthy environment for kids, freeing up parents for one night of the week during the holiday season. Children can stay at the Creative Arts Center from 5:30 pm to 9pm on the dates listed, where they will be provided with a variety of activities including age-appropriate games, arts and crafts projects and movies. Healthy snacks and beverages will be provided. Pre-registration is required due to space limitations. The cost is $35 per child per night and $28 for an additional child within the same family. For more information, contact the Creative Arts Center at (310) 802-5440 or visit www.citymb.info.
