Lobster Fest
The lobster fest has beefed up this year.
The 15th Annual Redondo Beach Surf ‘N Turf Lobster Festival, hosted by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau at the Seaside Lagoon, happens this weekend and features fresh Maine lobster and steak dinners. Also on the claw and hoof festival menu are arts and crafts booths, live music, a beer garden, an international food court, magicians, and a mechanical bull ride. The bull ride is a medium-rare attraction. Festivities begin Friday at 5 p.m. and run through 11 p.m. that night, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 online, $12 at the gate, kids 3 to 12 $5 and under 3 free. Free admission with a military identification. See www.lobsterfestival.com.
New library
The Redondo Beach Library Foundation presents the unveiling of the Redondo Beach North Branch Library, a fundraiser open house to be held on September 23, 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets for the sneak preview are $100. Catering by Chez Melange. To make reservations, call the Foundation office at 310-937-6676.
Police open house
The Redondo Beach Police Department hosts its annual Public Safety Fair on Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Redondo Beach Civic Center. This year’s Safety Fair features demonstrations by the RBPD K9 team, traffic motorcycle unit, the SWAT team, the Fire Department and the Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT). “Just visiting” jail and police station tours will also be available as will shoot/don’t shoot tests on the Firearms Training Simulator and a “walk a straight line” test while wearing beer goggles. New this year is a Kid’s Bike Safety Challenge. RBPD bike team officers will discuss safe biking habits, offer bike demonstrations and a challenging course for the kids to ride while practicing safe biking habits. The bike challenge is designed for ages five to 15 years. Bring a bike and helmet to the event.
