The 23rd running of the Smackfest Volleyball tournament will take place at the Hermosa Pier this weekend. The event begins Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the courts on the south side of the Pier, and runs till 6 p.m. It combines amateur and professional divisions, features players in elaborate costumes. A portion of the proceeds from the tournament will go to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. Playing slots in the tournament are sold out, but the event typically draws thousands of spectators.

The West Coast Junior Olympics for beach volleyball will take place at the Hermosa Pier this weekend. The tournament, which began on Wednesday, will run through Saturday at courts on the north side of the pier. Games will begin at 9 a.m. each day and run till 6 p.m.
Meeting with the mayor
Mayor Hany Fangary will hold his monthly “Community First” meeting this Saturday afternoon. The meetings are open to the public, and are an opportunity for the public to ask the mayor questions. The meeting will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at City Council chambers.
