Roundhouse Aquarium receives $10,000 grant
Earlier this month, the Roundhouse Aquarium accepted a $10,000 grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation, which supports nonprofit organizations and their work in communities. Funding received from the S. Mark Taper Foundation will go toward advanced training for special volunteers, creating new educational displays for the general public; replacing aging equipment, and enabling collection trips to add new animals, Roundhouse director Eric Martin said.
“This donation will help us continue providing the community with free hands-on experience that enhances our city and helps educate the regional population,” Martin said. “We know the community will be just as grateful as we are for the support the S. Mark Taper Foundation is giving the Roundhouse Aquarium.”
Local students win Neptunian art/photography contest
On March 9, 58 local students were honored with first, second and third prizes at the 36th annual show at the Neptunian Club House. Their submissions were judged by Bo Bridges, renowned photographer and local gallery owner; Helen Marish, director of Art 2 Go; and Noelle Parks, founder and interior designer of Noelle Interiors.
Students from nine local schools submitted entries to the contest: Mira Costa High School, Manhattan Beach Middle School, American Martyrs, Manhattan Academy, Grand View, Meadows, Pacific, Pennekamp, and Robinson. The art works were judged by grade level, with awards going to students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. The photography contest was for sixth through twelfth graders. All of the art and photography works that had been submitted were on display at the Club House prior to the awards ceremony.
