Eight Hermosa Beach residents have requested city council nomination papers from Hermosa Beach City Clerk Myra Maravilla, indicating they are contemplating seeking election to the Council in the November 5 general election.
The deadline for filing nomination papers to the city clerk, accompanied by 20 signatures from registered Hermosa Beach voters is 6 p.m. Thursday, August 8. The filing deadline will be extended to Wednesday, August 14 if either of the two incumbents do not seek reelection.
The terms of Councilmembers Justin Massey, and Michael Detoy expire in November. As a result, two council positions will be on the November 5 election ballot.
Massey, a potential ninth candidate, has not publicly stated whether or not he will seek election to a third term. He was first elected in 2016, and again in 2019.
Detoy said he will seek reelection. He was first elected in 2019.
Detoy is a Fire Captain with the city of Riverside.
“I am eager to earn the community’s support for another term to preserve the character and high quality of life in Hermosa Beach,” Detoy said in a written statement to Easy Reader
