Running: Pants Off Racing (“POR”) will be holding a “Sandy Sauté” on Saturday, Mar. 30 in Hermosa Beach. POR provides support directly to families that are impacted with pancreatic cancer. Registration is available for the Seventh Annual 5K Fun Run for the Oceans, held by the Manhattan Beach Roundhouse Aquarium Teaching Center. This year’s Fun Run will be Saturday, May 11 starting at 9:30 a.m. on the north side of the Manhattan Beach Pier. Entry fee is $35 and includes t-shirt, refreshments, prizes for top three in each age division and post-race raffle. Registration is available at roundhouseaquarium.org/funrun.

 

Fundraising: Local residents will be running in the 123rd Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15 to raise funds for their respective charities. Former El Segundo softball standout Shannon Brooker, now a senior at Boston University, will be sponsored by the Martin Richard Foundation, which was founded by the parents of Martin Richard, an 8-year-old boy who lost his life during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Brooker is attempting to reach her fundraising requirement of $7,500. Donations can be made by sending a check to the Martin Richard Foundation (℅ Shannon Brooker); or on her page at crowdrise.com.

Manhattan Beach resident Alan Franz is running to conquer cancer as a member of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team. He will be among more than 500 Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge teammates in an effort to raise $6 million for cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Paddleboarding: Registration is open for the Rock 2 Rock paddleboard race to be held on Father’s Day, June 30. Starting from Two Harbors on Catalina Island and finishing at Cabrillo State Beach in San Pedro, the race was started by Joe Bark and is now a fundraiser for the Ocean of Hope Campaign. Swimming: Registration is now open for Swim The Avenues, an official qualifying swim for the Manhattan Beach Pier to Pier Swim, to be held Sunday, July 14 at Redondo Beach’s Miramar Park. There will be a 1-mile race for ages 13-and-over ($45) as well as a half-mile race ($35). Both include individual age group and open categories along with wetsuit and non-wetsuit categories. Basketball: Dave Miller, Emmy Award winning NBA analyst will be hosting his 22nd annual  MVPCAMP.COM summer basketball camps at Aviation Sports Complex in Redondo Beach. Session I will be held July 8-12 (coed) and Session II July 15-19 (girls only) and Session III July 29-Aug. 2 (coed). Camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 14. The camp is geared for all levels of play and places with an emphasis on keeping the FUN in fundamentals.
