Vitality City Blueprint After 19 focus groups and many meetings listening to over 500 beach cities residents, we are busy writing the Vitality City Blueprint for 2011. This document translates the information learned in the focus groups into a plan of action for the coming year.
The Blueprint will be complete by the end of March, after review by a group of beach cities advisers and the Beach Cities Health District.
With Vitality City initiatives for 2011 decided, we’ll be asking for people to volunteer to help plan and implement them. That’s where you come in. The initiatives are volunteer driven and your participation is critical to their success.
Watch for more information on the initiatives and opportunities to volunteer in the coming weeks.
Walking Moais Start April 25 & 26
To be a longevity super-star you don’t have to run marathons or compete in ultra endurance events. In fact, Blue Zones researchers discovered that many of the world’s oldest and healthiest people engage in low-intensity activity on a daily basis. Shepherds in Sardinia hike many miles every day for most of their lives, while Okinawans garden for hours every day to grow food for their tables. Adventists in Loma Linda, California – another Blue Zone – take long walks. The key is to engage in low-intensity activity most days of the week.
Mark your calendars for April 25 and 26. On those dates people from all over the beach cities will gather at their local elementary school to form Walking Moai Teams–groups of people who walk regularly together, explore the community in a new way, and  build friendships. We will provide more details soon.  We will also need volunteers to pull off this fun event and you can expect to hear from us within a couple weeks.
