The Blue Zones Project “Walking School Bus” program kicked off this morning throughout the Beach Cities, as hundreds of kids walked together to school. According to Blue Zones, the program saves 15,000 car trips — 11,000 miles total, annually — and generates 30 million steps by the kids themselves. “For anyone, whether you are a child or an adult, you are looking for ways you can build in activity naturally — and what better way than to walk to school,” said Lisa Santora, Beach Cities Health District chief medical officer. Brad Jacobson and Steve Napolitano report.
