The annual Amateur Radio Field Day was held last weekend, June 23-24 at Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach. Members of the Hughes Amateur Radio Club, based in El Segundo, and sister clubs set up temporary HAM radios in the parkland to communicate across the country, in practice for a large-scale disaster.

HAM radio equipment will function when other communication systems go down. Local clubs competed with sister clubs to make the most calls, earning points for each success. City Attorney Mike Webb was in attendance as well as Jason May, Redondo Beach Fire Department division chief/operations.

The Hughes club meets at the Masonic Lodge in El Segundo. ER
