A homeless woman climbed atop the Metro Green Line rail near Rosecrans and Aviation boulevards early Thursday afternoon, shutting down the major intersection for more than an hour.
The Hawthorne Police Department received a call from a bystander at 11:15 a.m. and responded with assistance from Manhattan Beach police and the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Traffic was diverted from the intersection, which is bordered by the cities of Hawthorne, Manhattan Beach and El Segundo.
“She didn’t make any suicidal threats, but she was upset about something,” Hawthorne Police Department’s spokesperson Lt. Scott Swain said. “She made mention that it may be better if she wasn’t around.”
By 12:30 p.m. officers coaxed her down and took her to the hospital where she was examined, Swain said. She was not injured.
Service on the Metro Green Line was temporarily suspended between the Los Angeles International Airport and the Hawthorne/Lennox station. Metro officials tweeted close to noon that riders should expect major delays.
No charges were pressed against the woman, Swain said.
