Los Angeles County Lifeguards recovered the body of a woman this morning, Friday, Jauary 26, on the sand, near the ocean waterline, a block north of the Manhattan Beach Pier.
The woman had been staying with two male friends at a rental in the 2300 block of The Strand, according to a neighbor.
Manhattan Beach Police reported receiving a missing person report at 6:41 a.m. this morning from a male friend of the woman. The friend said he last saw the missing woman walking along the waterline. Manhattan Police enlisted the help of the Los Angeles County Lifeguards and the United States Coast Guard in searching the beach and ocean for the woman.
Friday morning’s surf was unusually dangerous because or large wave, and an unusually high, 5.8 foot tide that peaked at 9:15 a.m.
The woman was positively identified by officers through photographs, as well as by a next of next of kin. Police have not released her name.
