A woman shot in a domestic violence situation in North Redondo Beach died early Thursday as a result of her injuries.

Around 3:25 a.m., Paige Chiarello, 20, was pronounced dead at a local hospital, due to injuries suffered from a single gunshot wound to the head. Police arrested Roy Rodriguez Jr., Chiarello’s 22-year-old boyfriend, at the scene of the crime in connection with the shooting. Rodriguez and Chiarello had an eight-month-old child together.

Rodriguez was taken into custody by Redondo Beach police on Wednesday afternoon after police responded to a shots-fired call on the 2500 block of Graham Avenue around 1:30 p.m. The call also informed police that Chiarello had been shot.

“One of our Crisis Negotiation Team officers was able to make contact with the suspect, convincing him to surrender to police without incident,” Lt. Joe Hoffman said.

Inside the house, paramedics found Chiarello alive and provided immediate medical treatment. Four other people, including a child, were evacuated from the house and found to be unharmed, police said.

Rodriguez has been charged with murder, and is being held on $2,000,000 bail.
