Mr. Olympia trainer opens Psycho’s Body Shop on PCH

Chris “Psycho” Lewis got his nickname the old fashion way. His mother gave it to him. Not because of his behavior, but because in high school, he memorized the dialogue in the movie  “Psycho.”

The nickname took on a different meaning when he became a trainer of Mr. Olympia bodybuilders at Gold’s Gym in Venice, because of the intensity of his workouts.

Now, he’s attached his nickname to his own gym, on Pacific Coast Hwy, in Redondo Beach, at the former Greg’s Carpet location.

The grand opening of Psycho Body Shop in January was a reunion of the world’s top bodybuilders, including the legendary Mr. Olympian and Mr. Olympian trainer Charles Glass. The New York Times called Glass the trainer to the stars, among them Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Magic Johnson and George Foreman.

Glass was Lewis’ mentor at Gold’s, and then his rival in the classic tradition of student/teacher relationships.

Lewis, who grew up working for his father’s construction business, built the gym to his demanding specifications.  He offers training camps and seminars for people new to bodybuilding, as well as individual memberships, which include a workout plan, and diet and supplement advice.

Dive N’ Surf yard sale watermen/women reunion

The easing of the supply chain disruption, which has made finding wetsuits difficult throughout the pandemic, arrives just in time for the Dive N’ Surf Yard Sale. Now that Dive N’ Surf is independent of Body Glove, it is offering a wider range of wetsuit brands, including the female focused Sisstrevolution suits. The February tradition is as much an annual reunion for watermen/waterwoman as it is an opportunity to replace teabag wetsuits and other failing gear.

New name, location for Cancer Support Community

Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach is getting a new name and a new location. After 35 years on the Redondo Beach Pier, the non-profit is replacing Redondo Beach with South Bay in its name, and moving to Rolling Hills Plaza.

The 5,600 square foot office at 2601 Airport Drive in Torrance offers more space, including space for a demonstration kitchen, and is more conveniently located, CSC South Bay executive director Joey Shanahan said.

Some programs, including yoga and tai chi will continue to be offered outdoors, on the Redondo Pier. Since the start of the pandemic, most programs have been virtual. Shanahan said she hopes in-person programs will resume in April.

CSC South Bay offers over 200 programs per month of emotional support, education and hope for people with cancer and their families, completely free of charge.
