Blanca “Tita” Schneider, the matriarch of three generations of Hermosa Beach Schneiders, passed away last Thursday at age 96. Her husband of 71 years, Bill Schnider passed away in 2009.
Schneider was born April 17, 1915 in Monterrey, Mexico. After moving to the United States, she attended Immaculate Heart High School in Hollywood and then attended UCLA, where she met her future husband. They married shortly after her graduation in 1938. Much to the gratitude of her three children, 12 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, the couple chose to move to Hermosa Beach, rather than Whittier, in 1942.
Schneider never forgot her Hispanic roots. She taught Spanish for over 60 years in her home and at Compton College. She was a member of American Martyrs Church and had a special devotion to St. Jude. She was active in Sandpipers and enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening.
Schneider is survived by her daughter Linda Tims, sons Bill and Bob, daughters-in-law Chris and Dana, grandchildren Stu, Jane, Doug, Erica, Steve, Matt, Nick, Chris, Tim, Danielle, Devon and Drew; and great grandchildren William, Ryan, Anthony, Thomas, Duncan, Dylan, Charliey, Mikaela, Sienna, Isabella and Jack; and her two care providers Daisy and Conchita.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at American Martyrs Catholic Church, in Manhattan Beach, tomorrow at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National Shrine of St. Jude at shrineofstjude.org. ER
