Nominees should have made a contribution in one of the following: the arts, business, community service, education, health services, the military, environmental advocacy, or sports. Cooking for cancer cure
The Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach and South Bay restaurateur Michael Franks raised upwards of $20,000 at an Undiscovered Chefs event at Chez Melange earlier this month. Proceeds will fund the group’s free monthly support programs for cancer patients and their loved ones. For more information about the group and its work, visit cancersupportredondobeach.org.
Easter at the Galleria
The Easter bunny will be at the food court of the South Bay Galleria on Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to pose for photos and kick off the spring season. The first 300 children between the ages of 2 and 10 to arrive will get a free McDonalds breakfast and a free gift. Throughout the day there will be free entertainment, including balloon artists and face painters. Easter bunnies will be at the Galleria every day through March 30.
St Lawrence champions
For the second consecutive year, St Lawrence Martyr Junior High Decathlon Team was the overall champion at the 23rd annual Los Angeles Archdiocesan Academic Junior High Decathlon on March 2. Individual awards went to Sarah Geltz, Rebecca Schulist, Kalina Poprac, Rebecca Altshuler, Amanda Elliott, Rebecca Moore, John Schlaerth, and Matthew Craig. State Championships will be in Fresno on May 4.
