Dumpstaphunk plays Saint Rocke Saturday night. Dumpstaphunk will be dropping by Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach this Saturday night. They come straight outta’ New Orleans with a brand of funk highly acclaimed to get your booty shaking itself onto the Richter scale. Giving a whole new meaning to the peculiar expression “Dead on the heavy funk” (James Brown), Dumpsta is pushing the envelope of the genre itself. In an interview with Dennis Cook for JamBase.com, Ivan Neville of Dumpstaphunk said, “We know what this music is. No one can ever do what they did again, but we can take what we’ve gotten from that and go on with it and take it somewhere else… We are capable of doing that stuff, but we try to take it to the next level. We honor tradition, but at the same time, we’re trying to push it forward.” A funk of our own for our generation (and a new one for yours).
