Giant Menorah lights up Pier Plaza for Chanukah

Rabbi Yossi Mintz, of the Jewish Community Center, leads the Giant Lighting Menorah celebration.

The 11th Annual Giant Menorah Lighting was hosted by the Jewish Community Center on Pier Plaza at dusk on Sunday, December 29. Los Angles County/Hermosa Beach Firefighters assisted in the lighting with their hook and ladder truck. Prior to the lighting the children’s choir performed traditional Chanukah music and hot latkes were served.

The first Pier Plaza Menorah lighting took place in 2013, after Jewish Community Center Rabbi Yossi Mintz, and Seasprite Motel owner Thelma Greenwald obtained permission for the event from the Hermosa City Council. Greenwald passed away last October at age 94.
