A drunk driver slammed his car into the rear of a Hermosa Beach police cruiser in the early morning hours Friday, causing minor injuries to two officers, police said.
Jose Cruz Rodriguez, 21, of Lawndale, was arrested and charged with felony DUI and operating a vehicle without a driver’s license, an HBPD press release said.
The officers, identified as Eric Cahalan and Guy Dove, were stopped at a red light on Eighth Street just west of Pacific Coast Highway at 12:45 a.m. While waiting for the light to change, a vehicle slammed into the rear of the police car and pushed it into the empty southbound lanes of PCH.
A preliminary breath test at the scene indicated Rodriguez had a .22 blood-alcohol level, and Rodriguez is being held on $100,000 bail, police said.
Both officers were treated at the scene by Hermosa paramedics for minor injuries to their necks, back and head, the press release said. They were released from Little Company of Mary Hospital after being examined for their injuries.
