Manhattan Beach Police Beat: robbery, road rage, bullet holes, burglary
Strange robbery
A woman allegedly attempted to rob a convenience store last week by using a spray can as a weapon.
On November 12, 2024, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Manhattan Beach Police Department (MBPD) officers received a call regarding a robbery at the 7-Eleven store located at 1221 Artesia Blvd.
Officers learned that moments prior, a suspect stole approximately $10 to $15 worth of merchandise after she used an aerosol can and a lighter to ignite the can’s spray to create a flame, which she then directed towards the store employee several times before leaving the business. She was last seen walking southbound from the business.
MBPD contacted surrounding agencies to assist with identifying the suspect.
On November 18, 2024, at 8:12 a.m., with the help of an outside agency, the suspect identified as Kimberly Nation (DOB 03-28-1989) was arrested by MBPD detectives, and an MBPD officer assigned to the Homeless Liaison/Mental Health Evaluation Team without incident.
Nation was booked at the Manhattan Beach Police Department jail for the following offenses: 211 PC – Robbery and 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The LA County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and filed both charges against Nation.
Road rage knife incident
MBPD responded to a report of a man waving a knife in the parking lot outside the Hangar Inn at about 3:45 p.m. on November 15. Officers who arrived on the scene received conflicting stories from witnesses. After further investigation, officers were able to ascertain that what occurred began as a road rage incident in which a knife was allegedly brandished by one of the drivers, leading the other to brandish a large kitchen knife. According to the police report, no one was injured and there were no independent witnesses that could substantiate what truly occurred. MBPD Detectives are following up on the case.
Bullet holes
Sometime between November 15 and 17, somebody opened fire on an unoccupied car parked on the 500 block of Meadows Avenue. MBPD officers were called to the car on November 17, when its owner discovered three bullet holes in the car. Officers are examining surveillance video from the neighborhood to attempt to identify the shooter.
Burglary
A home on the 1500 block of 8th Street was burglarized sometime between 4 and 9 p.m. on November 20, according to MBPD reports. The residents had been out, and returned home to find an upstairs bedroom ransacked and three $1000 gift cards missing. Police believe the point of entry was a second-story door. Detectives are asking for nearby residents to look at their surveillance video and contact MBPD if any potential suspects can be identified. ER
