Manhattan Beach police on Wednesday released the identity of a taxi driver accused of sexual assault.

Sameh Shenouda, 38, of Torrance, was an employee with United Taxi when police arrested him on Nov. 21. Sameh was charged with one count of sexual battery.

The arrest was the result of an investigation that began when a Manhattan Beach woman claimed that the suspect grabbed her breasts in his cab on Aug. 19. The victim filed a police report after she saw a news report of a similar offense in Redondo Beach.

Since issuing a public notice about the case on Dec. 12, Manhattan Beach police have fielded calls from potential victims and inquiries from surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Detectives are currently working to determine whether these cases involve the same suspect, Manhattan Beach police detective Mike Rosenberger said.

Officials initially withheld the suspect’s name and photo from the public to ensure that witnesses and victims are interviewed impartially.

Shenouda posted a $20,000 bail after his arrest. He is due in court early January, Rosenberger said.
