Redondo Varsity Classic to showcase Southern California volleyball powers

Photo Many of the top boys volleyball teams in Southern California will converge on Sea Hawk Pavilion this week when Redondo Union High School hosts the Redondo Varsity Classic tournament Friday and Saturday. Ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll, Redondo has the opportunity to gain a better seed in the playoffs as the Sea Hawks go into the final week of the regular season. The Sea Hawks host second-ranked Mira Costa in a key Bay League match Thursday at 7 p.m. before its tournament which features the top four ranked team in Division 1. Mira Costa, the defending champion of the Redondo Varsity Classic, will face tough competition in the tournament that includes San Clemente (No.1 Div. 1), Loyola (No. 3, Div. 1) and Palos Verdes (No. 4, Div. 1) along with some of the top teams from the San Diego section.
