
Many of the top boys volleyball teams in Southern California will converge on Sea Hawk Pavilion this week when Redondo Union High School hosts the Redondo Varsity Classic tournament Friday and Saturday.
Ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll, Redondo has the opportunity to gain a better seed in the playoffs as the Sea Hawks go into the final week of the regular season.
The Sea Hawks host second-ranked Mira Costa in a key Bay League match Thursday at 7 p.m. before its tournament which features the top four ranked team in Division 1.
Mira Costa, the defending champion of the Redondo Varsity Classic, will face tough competition in the tournament that includes San Clemente (No.1 Div. 1), Loyola (No. 3, Div. 1) and Palos Verdes (No. 4, Div. 1) along with some of the top teams from the San Diego section.

Mira Costa is coming off an impressive weekend by winning the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions. After a sweep of Valencia, the Mustangs defeated Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 25-13, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 18-16, Corona del Mar (No. 8, Div. 1) 25-17, 25-12, 25-20 and Bellarmine (San Jose) 25-16, 25-11, 26-24.
Casey White was selected tournament MVP and teammates Grant Chalmers, Connor Inlow and Ryan Kaseff were named to the all-tournament team.
Mira Costa concludes its regular season with a 3:15 p.m. road match at Palos Verdes on Tuesday.
Redondo dropped a tough Bay League match against Palos Verdes last Thursday, losing to the visiting Sea Kings 25-21, 20-25, 26-24, 24-26, 15-9.
The Sea Hawks wrap up Bay League action Tuesday when they host Peninsula at 4:30 p.m. Coach Duncan Avery’s squad will host South Torrance Friday, May 3 at 7 p.m. in a non-league match that will serve as a final tune-up before the CIF playoffs begin the following week.
