A primary goal of the one-year-old South Bay Boardriders Club is to support young surfers. With the completion of its five-contest series on Saturday at the Manhattan pier, the club surpassed its most optimistic hopes for this goal. The contest series attracted nearly 100 surfers in the boys (14 and under), groms (12 and under) and micro groms (9 and under) divisions.
Manhattan Beach Middle School student Noah Collins established himself as the South Bay’s top young prospect with four firsts and a second to win the boys championship. Coddee Stamis and Sam Dunbar finished second and third.
The grom’s division was won by Kyle Beatty with three first place finishes. Ron Sannes and Jack Rowan finished second and third.
In the hotly contested micro grom division, Hermosa Beach Middle School student Kieran Walls narrowly edged out schoolmate and surfing partner Shane Moseley for the series title. Noah Steinmetz was third.
