Tree Lighting
The annual Hermosa Tree Lighting Ceremony takes place tonight at Pier Plaza.
The event will begin at 4 p.m., with the tree lighting at 6 p.m., and last until 9 p.m. It will feature musical performances, an appearance by Santa Claus, and a holiday carousel.
There will also be an accompanying toy drive put on by Rock for Tots. Those bringing a gift will receive a free carousel ride.
The host for the evening will be Jeremy Buck and the Bang. Performers include Justin Hopkins, Barley, Pacific Storm, Joe Cipolla, Minor 6 and Hermosa Beach Youth Music. In addition to the musical events on the plaza, there will be a show by Jamisen Jarvis inside Waterman’s at 7 p.m.
Sand Snowmen
There may not be snow, but there will still be a snowman-building contest this weekend.
The city-sponsored Hermosa Beach Sand Snowman contest will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. till noon on the north side of the pier. Prizes will be available in five categories: Hermosa Beach Favorite, Most Unique, Most Traditional, Best Dressed, and Funniest.
Contestants should arrive early to secure a spot on the beach. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m.
Menorah Lighting
Get ready for the first night of Chanukah with a menorah lighting celebration at Pier Plaza Sunday evening.
The Giant Chanukah Celebration will begin at 4 p.m. and will feature music from the high school marching bands of Mira Costa and Redondo Union, as well as “Hipsidic” singer Eli Marcus.
In addition to the lighting of the giant menorah, there will also be an arts and crafts booth, hot latkes and donuts, face painting and gifts for children.
