This is Civic Couch’s second episode in its “Chasing El Nino” series. This episode features some of the largest waves to hit the South Bay this winter. Endless Session, Day 187: Daydreams of Summer, but Praise for Winter
By Morgan Sliff 147 days till summer sun and hot sand. That being said, there is power in cold. Cold wakes you, heightens your senses, and whether you are freezing or not can be more of a mental battle than a physical one. I’ve come to love it — the way the chill in the air and […]
Endless Session, Day 186: Freezing warmth
The start to the weekend came forcefully, and I found myself on the road in a dream state before 6 a.m., landing in Seal Beach to watch my friend compete in the Katin Seal Beach Surfing Championships. On the beach, everyone was bundled in multiple layers and blankets to hide from the cold, and having […]

Endless Session, Day 183: Half Surf-Birthday
By Morgan Sliff 183 straight days of surf, stoke, and smiles for miles. I picked an interesting span of time to challenge myself to surf for a year. El Nino has confronted California full force, and it happened to be a leap year, adding one extra day to what would have been a normal 365. […]

A two-alarm fire burned through a Hermosa Avenue pizzeria Monday morning, causing thousands of dollars in damage. The Hermosa Beach Fire Department responded to a fire inside Pedone’s Pizza and Italian Food, near 14th Street, about 6 a.m., said HBFD Capt. Mike Garofano. Authorities were alerted to the fire by an alarm linked to the restaurant’s […]
