3 Things to Know About Living in Hermosa Beach

Hermosa Beach might not be a big city, but it has plenty to offer, especially because of its proximity to Los Angeles. While you are close to a major metroplex, it tends to feel like the suburbs, and this can be a good feeling for families who might want more space than an urban center. If you are thinking about living in this area for any length of time, there are a few things to consider.

There Are Plenty of Colleges

If you have teens, you may be considering whether the area would be viable as a long-term location. Luckily, the surrounding area has plenty of opportunity for your student’s college educations. They can choose from schools like the University of Southern California or the California Institute of Technology. One thing to keep in mind is that because of the higher cost of living, your students may not be able to afford school on their own. You can still help them out by cosigning on a student loan to speed up the financing process. This can give them funds to pay for their education.

The Weather is Warm All Year

The Hermosa Beach area is part of Southern California and sees relatively warm weather, no matter the season. It tends to be dry, with temperatures ranging from mild to hot. There is little humidity, so even if the temperatures are warm, the heat is dry. The cool waters of the Pacific are refreshing all season long. If you are looking for somewhere that does not experience extreme cold during the winters, California may be the state for you.

Even though the temperatures tend to be mild, the city does not experience much rainfall, especially during the hotter months of the year. If you move to Hermosa Beach, you may face water restrictions if there has not been much rain recently. Know there may also be smog, depending on the time of year. It is a problem in the surrounding areas because of the mountains surrounding the area.

Know You Might Have to Work Harder to Find a Job

Because of its proximity to the waterfront, some of the most popular jobs tend to be in the lifeguarding or tourism industry. These positions tend to pay less than other industries, so be prepared to expand your search to the rest of Los Angeles if you are planning on relocating. Southern California’s job market tends to be very competitive, and you may find it easier to get a position once you have moved to the area.

Being there can give you an advantage over other candidates, who may not be able to start until they have moved to the area. Consider interning with a company in the area to get your foot in the door. While Los Angeles may be full of actors, singers, and other people in the entertainment industry, it might be challenging to break into the industry without experience. Consider looking into technology instead, as the industry is growing quickly.
