
Mira Costa and Redondo each rolled to easy wins in first-round home games, but tougher foes await them in Wednesday’s second-round action.
Coach Miranda Biterler’s tenth-ranked Mira Costa team had little trouble defeating San Gabriel, routing the Matadors 73-25 behind Haley Tojo’s 18-point performance in the opening round of the Division 2AA CIF Southern Section/Ford Championships.
Camille Mills had another stellar performance scoring 15 points for the Mustangs (19-9) who will travel to take on No. 7 Bonita (21-5) in the second round.
Also in Division 2AA, Bay League foe Peninsula (15-13) earned an at-large bid but lost at No. 14 Chino 64-55.
Bay League teams fared better in Division 2A. Sixth-seeded Redondo (16-11) held visiting Arroyo under 20 points, defeating the Knights 55-19. Inara Nyingifa led the Sea Hawks with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Tatiana Maimot and Taylor Smith each scored 11 points.
Coach Marcel Enriquez’s Sea Hawk squad will host No. 11 Norwalk (19-8) in the second round Wednesday.
Fifth-seeded West Torrance (21-7) ran all over visiting Arlington 71-27 and will play at No. 12 Moorpark (15-9) in the second round.
In Division 3AAA, Pioneer League teams went 2-for-3. Playing on the road, No. 9 North Torrance (18-10) eliminated No. 8 Indio 68-41. The Saxons host top-seeded Gahr (20-8) in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

Eleventh-seeded Torrance (13-11) knocked off No. 6 Rio Mesa 54-48 and will host No. 3 El Dorado (24-4) Wednesday.
Pioneer League co-champion South Torrance couldn’t shake the rust off its opening-round bye and fell to No. 10 Glendora 39-30.
In Division 3AA, Bay League representative Palos Verdes was ranked No. 15 and gave second-seeded Santa Barbara all it could handle before falling to the Dons 59-56.
Two teams from the Del Rey League advanced to the quarterfinals in Division 4AA. Third-seeded Serra (23-5) defeated No. 14 Twentynine Palms 72-35 and will travel to play No. 6 St. Anthony (17-10) Wednesday.
Seventh-seeded Bishop Montgomery (22-7) eliminated No. 10 Harvard-Westlake 57-42 and will host second-seeded JSerra (21-6) in the quarterfinals.
