Dan Cobley of Danc Surfboards, winner of the Best Underground shaper the past four years, has his shaping bay at the Mangiagli surf factory covered with BoB awards. This year, that award will go up in the neighboring shaping bay of Jose Barahona.
“We have a healthy rivalry, “ Barahona laughed. “It’s all in fun and benefits shaping in a good way.”
Barahona is very easy going and listens to the customer before opening his mouth. He’s been in the industry for over 30 years and can shape every type of board.
“I make a board that best suits the surfer,” he said. “With the longest continuously run glassing shop right next door, my turn around is very quick.”
